Meet the Team

Edward Zhang



Edward is a freshman at UC San Diego. He swims competitively and volunteers at a UCSD lab that works on cancer detection. He enjoys surfing and hanging out with friends. He decided to create Race to Cure because he wants to eliminate the painful experience he went through when his mom was diagnosed with colon cancer.

Charlotte Zhang

Chief Executive Officer


Charlotte is a senior at Torrey Pines High school and aspires to pursue a medical career. She has been swimming competitively for 8 years and truly loves the sport. She wanted a way to bring her love of swimming and medicine together and helped create Race to Cure.

Olivia Li

Chief Operating Officer


Olivia is a senior at Torrey Pines High School. She is a competitive tennis player with interests in biology, chemistry, and Artificial intelligence. She hopes to pursue a degree in bioinformatics and machine learning to develop AI algorithms to solve medical problems. 

Marwah Hazrat

Chief Communications Officer

Marwah graduated early from Hillcrest High School to pursue her dreams of becoming a lawyer. She is currently applying to four year universities and is interested in sociology and improving health disparities.

Ian Ziyar

Chief Technology Officer

Ian earned his biochemistry degree at the University of California, San Diego and been involved in medical research for over four years. He is currently working in medical artificial intelligence.

Sarah Gibson

Head of Advisory Committee

Sarah is a USA Swimming National Team and Team Elite member training for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. 2017 Texas A & M graduate in biomedical engineering. 

Tina Poon


Tina is responsible for oversight and logistics of Race to Cure. She is the motor to our boat!

Taylor Shimizu

Chief Strategy Officer

Taylor is a senior at Canyon Crest Academy who hopes to go to medical school. She played competitive basketball for 8 years and now competes on the varsity tennis team. Other passions include photography, culinary delights, and giving back to the community. She hopes Race to Cure can help to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
